Alakhnandan, a well-known figure in the world of literature, is among the eight theatre personalities selected for this year’s prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards conferred on “eminent practitioners, gurus and scholars of music, dance and theatre for sustained individual achievement of high professional order”.
The selections were finalised at the general council meeting of the Sangeet Natak Akademi on December 13 and 14 in New Delhi.
While Alakhnandan and Kirti Jain were conferred the Award for Direction, Amitabh Shrivastav, Vikram Gokhale, Neena Tiwana and A R Srinivasan were selected for Acting. The selection of R Nageswara Rolo (Babji) was made for Major Traditions of Theatre – Company Theatre, Andhra Pradesh — and of Karnat Jain for Allied Theatre Arts (Lighting).
Alakhnandan, 63, is a freelance theatre activist based at Bhopal. He works for the famous theatre group, Nata Bundele.
He is the recipient of several Awards and Fellowships including Shikhar Samman (Government of Madhya Pradesh), Senior Fellowship (Department of Culture, Government of India), Master Fida Hussain Narasi Samman, Shreshtha Kala Acharya Samman, Madhuban, Bhopal, Life Time Achievement Award, and Rangadhar, Bhopal.
